    KREWE OF ROUX 2012

     

    Krewe of Roux has been a tradition here at UL for over 25 years, kicking off the Mardi Gras Season.  This year's parade will be on Thursday February 9, 2012.

     

    DUKE & MAID NOMINATIONS

    **NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED, BUT THERE IS STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR WAGON PARADE**Organizations nominating a Duke and/or a Maid for the Krewe of Roux will need to also participate in the parade.  Please complete the online form for your nomination by Tuesday January 31, 2012, no later than 4 p.m.  The nominees will need attend the King/Queen Selection on Thursday February 2, 2012 @ 12:15 p.m. in the Student Union Lobby. They should also participate in the Krewe of Roux Parade.  Additionally, the King & Queen will be recognized at the Men's Basketball game on February 9, 2012.


     

    KREWE OF ROUX PARADE

    The parade will be a walking parade with each organization decorating a wagon Mardi Gras Style.  Dukes/Maids will walk (or ride) in their organizations wagon and may be accompied by other members of the organization throughout the parade route.

     

    Line up @ 12 noon along the walk of honor near old Mouton Hall.  At 12:15 p.m. the wagons will be paraded around the Quad, then following the sidewalk to the crosswalk at  Rex Street, turning onto St. Mary in front of the library then head to the Student Union Porch by using the crosswalk past the library at Judice-Rickels Hall, behind Burke and end at the Union.

     

    At the end of the parade the coronation of the King & Queen, as well as the introduction of the royal court will take place, followed by King Cake for everyone!  THE PARADE WILL AGAIN TAKE PLACE @ THE MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME THAT SAME DAY, FEB 9 & WILL ROLL AROUND THE COURT DURING HALFTIME THROWING BEADS TO THE CROWD.

     

    PARADE RULES:

    • Only beads, doubloons, cand, cups and small lightweight items may be thrown from parade participants.  NO GLASS ITEMS CAN BE THROWN.
    • No glass containers are allowed.
    • No alcoholic beverages are allowed anywhere at any time.
    • Music is allowed, but at a reasonable volume; UPC officials reserve the right to ask participants to adjust the volume of their music.  Please refrain from playing music with profanity.
